FAIRFIELD — Elisha Toney dashed for three touchdowns, while Kevin Smith and Elzy Roberts ran for two each to lead the Armijo High junior varsity football team to a 47-8 victory over Fairfield at Schaefer Stadium, Friday.
Toney scored on runs of 8, 55 and 63 yards, while Smith had scoring runs of 90 and 29 yards and Roberts delivered scores of 4 and 1 yards.
Tommy Weisz kicked three extra points, while Cameron Cakus scored a two-point conversion for the Indians (2-3).
King Tyson scored on a 9-yard sweep in the final minute for Fairfield’s only touchdown with Tramale Hughs running in the 2-point conversion.
According to Indians coach Galen Lawton, the difference was, “really, consistency. Since last week’s loss (to Antelope), we talked about playing consistently as a team. . . . We’ve been trying to get all 11 guys playing at one time and that’s all we’ve been focused on.”
Armijo hosts Wood next week, while Fairfield (0-5) entertains Benicia.
Center 35, Vanden 6: At Antelope, Center moved the ball in efficient fashion en route to victory.
The Vikings’ lone score came late in the fourth, after the game moved to a running clock. Southpaw Stefan Koss hit Thomas Avant in the backfield before Avant weaved through a pack of Cougars defenders for a 77-yard touchdown.
The loss dropped Vanden to 1-4 on the year.
