SONOMA — GoPro, maker of the world’s most versatile camera and producer of today’s most engaging content, returns for the second year as title sponsor of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma IZOD IndyCar Series event, Friday through Sunday, and the company has kicked things into high gear so fans can maximize this high-speed weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
Not only will GoPro Founder and CEO, Nick Woodman, serve as grand marshal, but GoPro will offer race fans special ticket discounts and has created a GoPro Zone for fans to capture the high-speed action as cars roar past Turn 1 and up to Turn 2 of the road course.
Here is a glimpse at some of the exciting new elements GoPro will bring to the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, this weekend:
Woodman named grand marshal
Nick Woodman has proven he knows how to capture the high-speed thrills of everything from racing to surfing, but the Founder and CEO of GoPro will show whether he has what it takes to fire up a full field of Indy cars when he assumes the role of Grand Marshal of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma. Woodman, who will also hit the track in his No. 4 Pro Mazda entry in the Formula Car Challenge during the weekend, will give the most famous command in racing, “Drivers, Start Your Engines,” in front of a roaring crowd as well, as a national television audience on NBC Sports.
“It seems like just yesterday, in 2006, that I was in racing school here at Sonoma Raceway, realizing my childhood dream of learning to drive a race car. To be here today acting as the Grand Marshall of this premier race and to have GoPro partnered with such a prestigious track and race series is such an honor. On behalf of all GoPro employees and our families, we thank you and let’s have a great race!” Woodman said of the opportunity.
