Fairfield, Rodriguez grapplers do well at Novice tourney

NAPA — A pair of city teams had strong showings at the Novice wrestling tournament at Vintage High Wednesday.

Fairfield had nine grapplers finish fourth or better and Rodriguez had five first-place finishers.

The Mustangs taking first place were Joshua Borja, Brandon Diaz, Zach Horton, Jeremy Lewis and Charlton Williams.

Winners for the Falcons were Tyler Ross and Robert Jensen.

Taking second for Rodriguez were Bradley Ezike, Marcus Ison, Matthew Matua and Chris Wilkins. Fairfield’s Rito Gomez also finished second in his bracket.

Jordan Cervantes, Nate Kuertz and Austin Rodriguez all took third in their respective brackets for the Mustangs, while Fairfield’s Damarri Gulley, Anthony Buffalo-Ruffner and Thongsouk Bounkio were third.

Fairfield also had Apai Broytubpim, Robert Kirgen, Angelo Untalan finish fourth.

Rodriguez is at home on Tuesday, while Fairfield hits the mats again in December.
