Fairfield boys go 2-3 at water polo tourney

MERCED — The Fairfield High boys water polo team got a pair of wins and the Central California Tournament Friday and Saturday, while dropping three games.

The Falcons (6-5) lost 12-7 to McClatchy in their first game.

Cody Meyer had seven saves and a steal in the goal. Eduardo Alvarado had a goal and a steal, Andrew Lyon-Lee added a goal goal, an assist, and a steal

Nick Wullenweber and Andre Lavoie had two goals each and Elijah Livingston had a goal.

Fairfield then fell 18-9 to Merced.

Meyer had four saves in that game. Alvarado had three goals, an assist and a steal. Lasse Emmerich had a goal. Wullenweber had three goals and two assists. Lavoie contributed two goals and a steal.

Madera also got the best of the Falcons, 9-8 despite Meyer’s 12 saves.

Alvarado had a pair of goals, Nick Wullenweber added a hat trick, Lavoie had two goals and Lyon-Lee scored once.

Against Livingston, Fairfield got on the winning track with a 12-2 victory.

Meyer had eight saves and two steals in the cage.

Livingston had two goals and a steal. Alvarado and Emmerich had a goal and a steal each. Lyon-Lee had a goal and three steals, while Wullenweber had two goals and two assists. Lavoie had four goals and Simon Vandelle had a goal and two steals.

The Falcons closed the weekend out with a 4-3 win over new Solano County Athletic Conference rival American Canyon.

Meyer played spectacular defense with 10 saves in what Fairfield coach Charles Fahlstrom called, “a very tight game.”

Alvarado had a goal, Wullenweber scored twice and Lavoie had a goal.

Falcons girls wrap weekend with wins

ROCKLIN — In a busy weekend at the Sierra Shootout, the Fairfield High girls water polo team went 2-3 and evened its overall record at 3-3 on the season.

The Falcons opened the tournament Friday with a 6-1 loss to Tokay B.

Dalal Muqatash had the lone goal for Fairfield. Goalies Ashley Walker and Michelle Reynolds had five and three blocks, respectively.

In the second game, Friday, Golden Valley shut Fairfield out 7-0. Walker had three blocks.

Saturday began with a 7-4 loss to Benicia. Muqatash scored a goal, Elizabeth Villenas added two goals and Vanessa Vo scored once. Goalie Ashley Walker had a pair of blocks.

The Falcons then soared to a 14-2 victory over Florin.

Walker, Reynolds, and Micaela Chapa each scored once, Villenas and Denise Vo had two goals each. Itzia Portales had three goals and Muqatash led with four. Goalie Reynolds finished with three blocks.

Fairfield wrapped the tournament with a 4-3 win over Rocklin in sudden-death overtime.

Walker had three blocks in the cage. Muqatash scored the Falcons’ first three goals to end regulation tied at 3-3.

Lesley Martinez made the assist to Vanessa Vo to win the game.

The Falcons start Solano County Athletic Conference play hosting Benicia on Sept. 25.
