ANTELOPE — The Fairfield High basketball team won its second straight game over a defending state champion, defeating College Park 69-55 in opening round of the Antelope Tournament, Thursday.
Fairfield (4-2) found itself only down two after the first quarter, then took a 31-29 lead at the half and never gave the lead back.
“We shot it really well,” coach Eddie Wilson said, as Fairfield made 12 3-pointers. “We overwhelmed them with our athleticism and got out in transition well.”
DeMoriaye Hart-Spikes and John Jones led Fairfield with 20 points each, while Sean Gray added 16.
About Jones’ scoring, Wilson said, “John Jones is in a rhythm right now and he’s seeing the basket really well.”
This was Jones’ second straight game with 20 points.
Fairfield plays Kennedy High in the second round of the tournament. today at 8 p.m.
Vacaville JV 70, Vanden JV 40: At Vacaville, the Vikings (0-3) fell in the opening round game of the Don Trolinger Tournament. Julian Bactad led Vanden with 12 points, while Marshall Tubbs had 11.
Vanden plays Vintage, Friday.

Mustangs pull out close win in tournament
PIEDMONT — The Rodriguez High girls basketball team opened the Paris Twins Tournament with a close 41-39 victory over Marin Catholic, Thursday.
After a tied up halftime, the Mustangs (3-4) outscored Marin Catholic by five in the third, and held on to the lead, despite being outscored in the fourth quarter, 12-9.
Destiny Greenwood led Rodriguez with 11 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals, while Janessa Boling had nine points, two boards and two steals.
The Mustangs play Piedmont at , today, at 6 p.m.
Vanden JV 43, Pleasant Grove 31: At Kennedy High in Sacramento, the Vikings (2-1) opened the Pleasant Grove tournament with a victory.
Azanae Lewis led Vanden with 15 points, Aryel Moreland had 10 and Monet Lewis added seven.
The Vikings play Del Oro in the tournament at 8 p.m., Friday.
Rodriguez falls on road to Bella Vista
FAIR OAKS — The Rodriguez High wrestling team fell to Bella Vista 38-28 in nonleague action, Wednesday.
Jordan Cervantes (106 pounds) won by pin for the Mustangs, Andreys Palacios (220).
Other winners for Rodriguez included Marco Padilla (152), Jarrod Guinn (160), Brandon Diaz (170) and Emilio Gutierrez (182).
