District 53 TOC opens Saturday

FAIRFIELD — The 2014 Little League District 53 Tournament of Champions, which includes several runners-up, is here with Suisun American one of the host sites.

Action in the single-elimination tournament begins Saturday with Majors Division games at the Lambrecht Sports Complex in Suisun City, Napa and East Vallejo.

Minors Division games are at the same three locations along with Middletown/Cobb at Hidden Valley Lake.

In Majors play, the Suisun American champion Red Sox open play against the Napa National runner-up at 10 a.m. In a crosstown matchup later in the day, the Fairfield Atlantic champion Angels battle the Cordelia/Tri-Valley runner-up Giants at 1 p.m., also at Suisun. The 1 p.m. winner advances to play the Fairfield Pacific runner-up Tigers on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

In Napa, the Tri-Valley champion Astros meet the American Canyon champion Padres at 10 a.m., while the Fairfield Atlantic runner-up A’s tangle with the Napa American champions at 1 p.m. The 10 a.m. survivor goes on to play the Fairfield Pacific champion Giants on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

One semifinal is Wednesday in Suisun City, the other on Thursday in Napa, which hosts the finals on Saturday.

Seven of the 16 teams participating in the Minors TOC are from the city. The earliest of the two crosstown matchups in the first round pits the Fairfield Pacific champion Red Sox against the Suisun American champion Dodgers on Saturday in Suisun at 10 a.m.

The Tri-Valley champion Indians battle the Fairfield Pacific runner-up Giants at Middletown/Cobb at 2 p.m. Earlier in the day at the same location, the Tri-Valley runner-up Athletics meet the Middletown/Cobb champs.

Closer to home, the Fairfield Atlantic champion Cardinals meet the Napa National champs in Napa at 10 a.m., while the East Vallejo champions host the Fairfield Atlantic runner-up Orioles at 10 a.m.

The Minors quarterfinals are Monday, one semifinal is Wednesday in Suisun City, the other in Napa on Thursday with the finals in Napa on Saturday.
