The Lewis and Clark football team was in search of their first victory heading into last week’s homecoming game against Puget Sound.
With quarterback Keith Welch Jr. totally going off, the Pios (1-3) are searching no more.
The former Fairfield High standout rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns and completed 26 of 38 passes for 352 yards and four more TDs as Lewis and Clark rolled to a 60-30 victory.
For his efforts, Welch earned Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Greg Goodenough (Vacaville Christian) recorded two tackles for the Pios.
Pacific overcame a 14-0 deficit to down Whitworth 31-21, achieving its first 4-0 start since 1950. Craig Bailey (Fairfield) had two tackles.
Christian Basden (Vanden) played for Humboldt State (0-5) in a 21-13 loss to Central Washington.
In Sacramento State’s 37-21 win over Northern Colorado, Chris Broadnax (Vanden) caught one pass for five yards and Markell Williams (Vacaville) had seven tackles, four solo, for the Hornets (3-3).
Deone Bucannon (Vanden) returned an interception 47 yards, had a game-high 12 tackles, including one for loss, and broke up a pass to help Washington State (4-2) down California 44-22.
Myles Burton (Rodriguez) had another solid outing by rushing for 130 yards on 16 carries and hauling in a pass for 32 yards in helping Dixie State (2-3) blast Simon Fraser 39-12.
St. Cloud State fell 34-7 to Minnesota-Duluth for its first loss of the season. Damon Treat (Vanden) caught one pass for minus three yards, returned a punt four yards and ran back four kickoffs for 47 yards for the Huskies (4-1).
Myles Carlock (Rodriguez, Vanden) saw action for Southern Utah (4-2) in a 21-3 loss to UC Davis.
In Eastern Washington’s 41-19 win over Weber State, Quincy Forte (Vacaville) ran seven times for 51 yards for the Eagles (3-2).
Brock Hekking (Vacaville) had five tackles, including a sack for a 7-yard loss, in a losing cause as Nevada (3-3) fell 51-44 to San Diego State in overtime.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo dropped a 24-10 decision to Yale with Alex Hubbard (Fairfield) making four tackles and breaking up a pass for the Mustangs (2-3).
Marcel Jensen (Rodriguez) caught three passes for 65 yards to help Fresno State (5-0) stay unbeaten with a 61-14 thumping of Idaho. Anthony Riggins (Rodriguez) also played for the Bulldogs.
Andre Lewis (Rodriguez) saw action for Utah (3-2) in a 34-27 loss to UCLA.
Southern Oregon rolled past Montana Tech 59-32 with Melvin Mason (Vacaville) rushing for 15 yards and catching four passes for 35 yards, while Ammir Souder (Armijo) had two tackles for the Raiders (3-3).
Jordan Morrow (Rodriguez) played for Murray State (4-2) in a 35-24 win over Tennessee Tech.
Cameron Richmond (Rodriguez) caught five passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to keep Idaho (2-3) from dropping a 25-15 decision to North Dakota.
In New Mexico Highlands’ 22-17 loss to Colorado Mesa, Eric Smith (Vanden) had seven tackles, including one for loss, and broke up a pass for the Cowboys (2-3).
Texas Christian suffered a tough 20-17 loss to Oklahoma despite Jason Verrett (Rodriguez) getting six tackles and breaking up a pass.
Devon Damelio (Rodriguez) delivered a career-high 24 digs, but it wasn’t enough to keep UC Davis (9-7) from falling 25-16, 25-11, 25-27, 21-25, 15-11 to Cal State Fullerton. Damelio also had 14 kills, four assists and seven blocks in the match, while having 11 kills, two assists, five digs and eight blocks in a victory over UC Riverside.
Simpson (2-11) fell to Menlo and Pacific Union with Jazmin Wallace (Fairfield) getting a combined 18 digs in the two matches. Alexis Angier (Vacaville) played in the latter.
Holy Names dropped to 0-17 with losses to Hawaii Pacific, BYU Hawaii and Chaminade. Tatum Bales (Wood, Solano) had a combined seven assists, 47 digs and one ace in the three matches.
Lainey Brown (Vacaville Christian, Solano) had three digs for Menlo (9-5) in a 3-1 win over William Jessup.
Sandy Garcia (Solano) scored in the 58th minute for Nyack (5-4-1) in an eventual double-overtime 1-1 tie with Philadelphia University. She had one other shot on goal, while Alexsa Gonzalez (Solano) also played for the Warriors. Garcia had a shot on goal in a 1-0 overtime win over Felician, while Gonzalez had a shot on goal in a 2-0 loss to Mercy.
Erica Ramirez (Armijo, Solano) had two saves and recorded the shutout in goal for Columbia College (8-2-1) in an 8-0 downing of Freed-Hardeman.
Darian Corey (Rodriguez) played for Humboldt State (3-5-2) in losses to Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-0) and Cal State L.A. (1-0).
Karlie Mast (Solano) took three shots, including one on goal, for Northwest Christian (3-6-1) in a 1-0 win over Oregon Tech. She also took a shot in a 0-0 tie with Southern Oregon.
Cecilee Kidd (Fairfield, Solano) played for Missouri Valley in a 2-1 loss to Ottawa and a 2-1 win over Benedictine.
