Armijo girls tennis team downs Vacaville

FAIRFIELD — The Armijo High girls tennis team gave up one match defeating Vacaville 8-1 in Monticello Empire League action Thursday at Armijo.

“It was the best match we’ve played all year against a very good Vacaville team,” Armijo coach Greg Davis said. “We finally played to our full potential.”

The Indians (6-1 MEL) swept the singles matches, keyed by Bella Heidenreich’s win over Cori Beeby 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Laya Dasari, Alex Castanada, Lenora Quionez, Marty Bynum and Mercedes Uson also earned wins for the Indians.

In doubles action, Molly Smith and Assatta Russell won their match at No. 2 and Kathleen Bolhost and Ariana Restua garnered a win in their No. 3 match.

Armijo travels to Vintage on Tuesday.

Vanden 8, Rodriguez 1: At Fairfield, Emily Lewis’ win at No. 1 helped key the Vikings to a Solano County Athletic Conference win.

Vanden (8-0, 5-0 SCAC) swept the singles competition with wins from Dani Ponce, Brenda Louie, Rhiannon Jensen, Jaleena Hust and Aishlyn Webb.

Britney Marquez and Tulsi Patel got the win at No. 1 doubles with Rakha Rangan and Casey Quain winning at No. 2 for the Vikings. Madelyn Fanderi and Haley Hull got the lone win for the Mustangs.

The Vikings travel to American Canyon on Tuesday.

Vintage 8, Fairfield 1: At Napa, A tough day for the Falcons was tempered by a dramatic win at No. 2 doubles as May Mandanas and Remy Martinez rallied for a third-set tie-break victory, winning 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Vanden gets first win of season

FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High girls golf team picked up its first win of the season Thursday, a 266-311 victory over Bethel in Solano County Athletic Conference action at Green Tree.

The Vikings’ Natasha Griffin led all golfers with a 47 on the par-29 executive course, and was followed by Sydney Dantes-Canoy (50), Akayla Lewis (55), Makayla McIntire (55) and Jade Watkins (59).

Vanden (1-5, 1-2 SCAC) plays again Monday against American Canyon at Chardoney Country Club.
