Armijo boys fall to Vacaville in MEL opener

FAIRFIELD — The Armijo High boys basketball team opened Monticello Empire League play with a 56-30 loss to Vacaville, Friday.

After playing the Bulldogs to a 9-9 tie after the first quarter, coach Carly Perales said mistakes cost the Indians (2-13, 0-1 MEL).

“We started turning the ball over,” Perales said. We had nine in the third quarter, and continued to turn it over in the fourth quarter. We ended up with close to 30 at the end of the game.”

Tyree Carrie led Armijo with 11 points and Jordan Allen scored nine.

Armijo hosts Wood on Tuesday.

Napa holds off Rodriguez in MEL opener

NAPA — The Rodriguez High girls basketball team fell to Napa 53-48 in both team’s Monticello Empire League opener, Friday.

Janessa Boling had 14 points, and three steals for the Mustangs (8-8, 0-1 MEL), while Darja Carroll had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Rodriguez plays against Castlemont in the MLK Classic at Pittsburg High, Saturday, and plays at home against Vintage, Tuesday.
