FAIRFIELD — Jake Hedrick didn’t start for the Fairfield Expos American Legion baseball team, Tuesday, but his two plate appearances were the most important.
Hedrick lifted a game-tying sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-6 and he legged out an infield ground ball for a 7-6 walk-off win over the Las Vegas Aces at Laurel Creek Park.
Mikey Brown led off the decisive seventh inning with a double to left-center field.
JP San Antonio followed with a walk and Miko Faulstitch struck out, bringing up Hedrick.
Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Hedrick’s infield single plated Brown for the game winner.
Fairfield opened up with a four-run first inning, Jacob Booker’s RBI groundout put the Expos up 1-0.
Anthony Kaleczyc followed with an RBI single and Brown ripped a triple to left, scoring Kaleczyc.
San Antonio plated Brown with a base hit to right.
The Aces put up a four-spot in the third, but the Expos responded with Gio Torres’ RBI single to retake the lead at 5-4.
Las Vegas added two in the fourth for a 6-5 advantage that Hedrick erased in his two trips to the plate.
The Expos haven’t seen the last of the Aces, as both open play in the Western Amateur Baseball Federation championships starting Wednesday.
