FAIRFIELD — The Rodriguez High baseball team came up with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Mustangs needed at least two, falling to visiting Vintage 9-8 in Monticello Empire League play, Wednesday.

Rodriguez took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but a five-run outburst by Vintage left the Mustangs trailing briefly.

A four-spot by the home team in the third gave Rodriguez a 6-5 lead, but the Crushers added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to go up 9-6.

Rodriguez added single runs in the fifth and seventh, but Vintage held on.

Jaocb Booker and Anthony Kaleczyc each had three hits and two RBIs for the Mustangs. Kaleczyc also had a triple.

Nate Minster added a pair of hits and two driven in, while Dante Golden and Logan Lanza (one RBI) each added two hits.

Davy Duncan also had a hit and an RBI for the Mustangs, who now trail first-place Will C. Wood by two games, with two against the Wildcats next week.

Rodriguez hosts Wood Wednesday and travels to Wood on Friday.
