RIO VISTA — Rio Vista High School students in the green jobs class have had to view wind turbine equipment just like everyone else — standing below a turbine tower and peering upward.
The 30 or so students in September 2011 did get to take a field trip to see turbine parts being assembled in the rural Montezuma Hills, site of Solano County’s wind farms. But any in-depth, close-up studies of the gearboxes and generators have been thwarted by the simple reality that such pieces are mounted on towers 60 feet to 260 feet tall.
