Not wanting to get caught up in the oddities behind obscure cupcakes such as those featured in television shows like “Cupcake Wars,” Wendy Diavatis said Truffle Berries Sweet Shop focuses on the staples. “Some people want cucumber and ginger. I’m not into that,” the owner said. “Fudge and caramel dripping off it. That sounds good.” Diavatis said her shop makes cupcakes like people had when they were kids. “We are not foo-foo. We are just like what you would grow up with.” She said the downtown location was key when looking to open the business. Diavatis said she prefers to cater to foot traffic, rather than be in a busy area. Being a shop that sells sweets, it always varies as to when the crowds will arrive. She said a lot of her clientele are located in other parts of the city, and they come downtown for the treats.
