From humble beginnings as a three-bay repair shop on Taylor Street in 1954 to its new, much larger digs on North Texas Street Ryan’s Automotive is a multi-time winner of Daily Republic Readers Choice honors. It’s gone through a few name changes as partners have retired and taken on new partners, but since 1992 it has been solely owned by Ryan Pain, who came to the automotive center when it was Wesner Automotive in 1979. Pain attributes the wins to the shop’s “honesty and quality” of work done by its “well-trained” mechanics. “We pride ourselves on being the top shop in town,” he said. “We’re not the cheapest in town but I do think we’re the best.” Ryan’s Automotive is one of the only newly mandated “star certified” smog stations in town, he said. The star system is a grading system put in place in January by the state that grades the shop and technicians, Pain said.
