Best burger: Dave’s Giant Hamburger
In Fairfield: 1055 N. Texas St.
Hour: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday
Dave’s is consistently voted the best hamburger in the area by Daily Republic readers. This year is no exception. Lesa Gonzalez, the manager, and daughter of the late Dave Heim, the burger joint’s founder, said that her father would be “tickled” to know the business is still up and running. This July, Dave’s will celebrate its 50th anniversary. After Gonzalez’s father died, her mother took over and when her mother retires, Gonzalez will be ready to take the helm. She said that what keeps the customers coming back is the personal touch they offer customers and the taste of the custom-made burgers. “It just tastes so good,” Gonzalez said. “We just cook them the right way.” Dave’s uses fresh meat and fresh buns. But don’t ask for fries. Dave’s is a “no french fry” restaurant and Gonzalez said there are no plans to change that. “It just makes us different” Gonzalez said. “It’s all about the burger.”

Another I have to disagree. A very very good burger, YES. But IMO, what is a good burger without fries?? Often times when we pick up burgers, we have to stop by MickeyD's on the way home to get fries>>LOL. But as of late, I actually enjoy a 4 X 4 at, In N Out better. And just recently tried 5 Guys, and 5 Guys beats them BOTH hands down, and with THE ABSOLUTE best fries.

Went to 5 Guys for the first time on Friday, very good burger and I like Squeeze Inn Vacaville as well. I agree, gotta have fries! I have not tried either place here so the best dog IMO is Knuckleheads in Roseville. I think Dynasty in FF is still good as ever.
