Anyone eating breakfast at Babs Delta Diner will get a taste of farm life in Illinois. That’s where owner Babs Curless learned her recipes she still uses today at the waterfront restaurant. “I cook everything from scratch,” Curless said. “There’s no mixes. It always tastes the same.” The corned-beef hash and omelets are the best-sellers for those who belly up to the counter starting at 5 a.m. Guests can personalize their order as well. “We’ve been the same group of people for 10 years,” she said. “The familiar faces are always there.” The location doesn’t hurt things, either, Curless said, as folks can come down to the Suisun waterfront. She recently installed speakers so people can hear their number called while outside. More than anything, though, Curless said it’s the down-home feel that keeps people coming back. “Someone came in and told me, ‘Babs, this is just like coming to grandma’s house,’ ” she said. “You couldn’t have told me a nicer compliment.”
