It’s a proud moment for young livestock exhibitors when they walk into the sale ring with their animals at the Solano County Fair Junior Livestock Auction.
When the prized animals are sold, the rewards for a year of long, hard work are realized. Countless hours and resources are spent on raising the animals that you see in the barns at the fairgrounds. Dedicated 4-H and FFA youth from throughout the county raise and care for their animals with the ultimate goal of winning a ribbon at the fair and selling their animal at auction.
A livestock project is an incredibly valuable tool for teaching responsibility to youth. They learn time management, financial responsibility, dedication to their commitments, and marketing skills, all wrapped up with the thrill of competition and the reality of raising an animal destined to go to market.
The Junior Livestock Auction provides the opportunity for a return on the exhibitor’s investment and the culmination of a unique business experience. Your support of this auction allows you the chance to recognize their efforts and encourage these youngsters. If you don’t want to purchase an animal on your own, you can partner with others to share the purchase and be a part of helping support the youth in our community.
The Jack & Bernice Junior Livestock Auction will start at 1:30 p.m. on the closing day of the fair, Sunday Aug. 3.
