FAIRFIELD — It has been said that tough times do not last but tough people do.
It has been turbulent times in recent years for Placer Title Company as it rode out the housing crisis. The company had 1,100 employees several years ago and that number dropped to 450 a few years ago. But Placer Title is rebounding and has 750 employees as it recently marked its 40th anniversary.
Locally, Placer Title Company employees have been serving Solano County since 1985, offering residential, commercial and builder-developer clients in the area with great knowledge of the county. The only on-site title plant in Solano County is centered in its Fairfield location on Oliver Road.
“In this industry it is largely about relationship building. For the most part, you need to know what’s going on in the county where you live and work,” said Genie Branson, president of the Solano County division of Placer Title Company.
Branson was born and raised in Solano County and lives in Fairfield with her husband, Curt. They have two daughters, Kristi and Alix, and their grandson, Karter, all of whom also live in Solano County.
Branson, with 20 years at Placer Title Company, has worked in all aspects of the title and escrow business. Her staff at offices in Fairfield and Vacaville are dedicated to the industry and remain committed to providing exceptional service.
Placer Title Company was founded in 1973 by Leo French, with two offices and five employees. Today, Placer Title is licensed in all 58 California counties, providing title insurance and escrow services to the real estate industry.
French’s vision was to create a work environment that placed an emphasis on the best interests of the people.
Branson takes great pride in working for Placer Title Company and truly believes in the motto of Leo French, which is, “Bring together a group of people who really care about each other and about their customers.” She is quick to point to the Placer Title Company mission statement penned by French that is prominently displayed in the office lobby.
“Our mission at Placer Title Company is to create an exceptional experience that provides for the worry-free transfer of real property. We enthusiastically give of ourselves to assist our customers in realizing their goals. We listen, we care and we respond. Our life blood is customer satisfaction,” she said.
Buying or selling real estate usually involves the transfer of large sums of money. With large sums of money in play, people and businesses can be anxious. As a neutral third party, Placer Title Company handles the transfer of funds and related documents from one party to another. It is essential that all conditions of the sale are met before the property and money change hands.
Placer Title Company’s premium title insurance policies protect against the false claims of ownership of property, forged deeds, releases or wills, mistakes in recording legal documents, liens for unpaid taxes and fraud efforts.
While insurance can be a dry subject, French, who died earlier this year, helped create a business model and workplace setting that fostered and fueled security, success and kinship among his employees.
Branson is quick to share comments in a speech French presented several years ago.
“Because we are different and because we are special, we are going to have a different and special company. The best. The cream of the cream. We are going to have it because I want that dream – and I want you to have that dream, and together we’ll get it. We’re different and we’re special and we won’t settle for anything less.”
