DIXON — Want to be the first to experience the 2014 Dixon May Fair? Then the preview party on Wednesday, May 7 before the fair opens is the place to be.
The ticketed event includes music by Yolo Mambo, appetizers provided by Cattlemens Restaurant of Dixon, beverages provided by Friends of the Dixon May Fair and Rock Creek Vineyard, an Opening Art Show & Auction and selected exhibits. A portion of the proceeds from the auction benefit the Solano Community College Art Program.
If you want the transglobal rhythms of Yolo Mambo to transport you to Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Cape Verde, France, Spain or New Zealand, you need to attend the Wednesday evening “Best of Show” preview party. Yolo Mambo blends spicy cha-cha, jazz, bossa nova, samba, salsa and folk with the dynamic vocals of Catherine LeBlanc in languages from all over this Earth.
Completing the instrumental and vocal backing are jazz and world music veterans Phil Summers on Spanish guitar, Carla Campbell on percussion and Steve O’Neill on string bass. Summers and LeBlanc are both former members of !Akimbo, Campbell is remembered from her work with Clan Dyken and Di Patterson, and O’Neill has recorded with Sourdough Slim and California Zephyr. Discography includes “Roulette of Romance” in 2010 and “Worldwide” in 2011.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 707-678-5529 or at the fairgrounds office at 655 S. First St. in Dixon. A preview of exhibits starts 6:30 p.m. and the party begins at 7 p.m. at the Garden Stage.
