Sound off for Sept. 8, 2013

Solano County recently updated its rail plan, including tracks from Suisun City and Cordelia that could someday have trains that go to Napa and Vallejo.

Here are some comments on the article:

  • Please keep rail alive in Solano County. Keep the Suisun station open indefinitely. I’m thinking that tourists would love to take a train from Napa to Suisun City. I would, and I’m not even a tourist.
  • Being without a car for the past month made me realize how far we have to go to make it realistic to rely on public transportation. Just going to the grocery store was a three-hour excursion. Waiting in the hot sun for 45 minutes for a bus, knowing that I could have driven around the entire county in that time, made me appreciate my car even more.
  • Many of us don’t realize what our independence consists of until it is taken away. That is why public transportation must be improved. Transportation terminals must have the foresight to provide enough parking so folks don’t get frustrated and give up. It has to be efficient and cost-effective. The biggest issue of course, is that it must be time sensitive so we can get more people to use it as a suitable alternative.
