Cheers to the Suisun Valley, which celebrated the 31st anniversary of its designation as an American Viticultural Area.
That Suisun Valley wines gained a reputation for quality at a lower price than neighboring Napa County is a boon to the area. According to leaders of local wineries, word continues to spread about Suisun Valley wine, bringing more visitors from outside the area.
Thursday’s celebration at the region’s wineries recognized what has been true for a while: Suisun Valley wine is outstanding.
Jeers to the continued dry weather. While many of us enjoy the warm December afternoons, the continued lack of rain brings concern that our state is sliding into a water crisis.
News that there’s no rain expected for the next week-plus – and the forecast beyond that isn’t particularly wet – brings more hand-wringing.
Let’s hope that 2014 brings enough rain to maintain or increase the volume of water in the state’s reservoirs.
Cheers to Lynch Canyon, the 1,039-acre preserve between Fairfield and Vallejo, which is now open during the winter.
The Solano Land Trust and Solano County teamed up seven years ago to open the area on weekends in the spring and summer. Last summer, the county decided to open it year-round – giving area hikers a beautiful place to go during (unfortunately) dry winter weekends.
Cheers to Victory Rose Thoroughbreds, a 63-acre racehorse training and breeding facility off Allendale Road in Vacaville.
The farm has 170 horses of all ages in different stages of training, racing, retirement and breeding. We love that Solano County is home to a working-level training and breeding facility for horses – one that also helps adopt the horses to families who desire a horse.
Cheers to Rodriguez and Fairfield high schools for hosting boys basketball tournaments this week. Rodriguez hosted its first RHS Holiday Stampede and Fairfield brought back the Fairfield Holiday Classic – giving the area two tournaments where there were none since Fairfield dropped its tournament in 2012.
It’s good news to the region’s high school basketball fans.
