Who’s really lying about America?

I would like to thank the Daily Republic for brightening my day when I open my morning paper and see a cartoon by Michael Ramirez. What an artist! What a sense of humor!

Of course, some readers with an opposing viewpoint cannot see it as a joke. The first thing they do is attack Mr. Ramirez’s character by calling him a liar. They cannot tolerate and also get extremely paranoid if anyone makes fun or makes any type of comments with a different prospective on their leftist-leaning government.

Almost all major newspapers and other news organizations favor the left, except Fox News. In the past, a regular contributor to the Daily Republic, Mike Kirchubel, wrote that Fox News and especially the O’Reilly Factor with Bill O’Reilly consist mostly of lies. Does Kirchubel have any proof? Of course not. That is how the left works to discredit anyone and everything that does not fit in its agenda. Repeat it often enough and people who don’t take the time to check it out believe it. That is how they get into power.

It happened in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, it could happen here. However, because this country is much larger it would take more time, and there are still a lot of Republicans, Democrats and Libertarians who believe in the expression of free speech, also to agree to disagree.

But there is a full-scale assault against that freedom. Don’t be fooled by their name, “liberals,” they are by no means for Liberty.

Brilliant! Yet another GOP/FOX parrot gets loose and unleashes her own obfuscation, deflection and inane writing skills those folks are so well documented and known for. The freak show rolls on.

Mr. Smith, not at all. She is the tip of the hopeless-lot iceberg. How very sad, there is so much information and what I once believed intelligent life but this kind of tripe and support for it is mind-numbing.

CD When ever you are presented with another opinion that you do not agree with you resort to the name calling and liberal atheistic CNN and MSNBC spin because you have no answer. Your support for the left is what as you put it mind-numbing. when the truth is brought out of the darkness into the light you refuse to see it because you are blinded by the light of truth. Go and continue to live in your utopian fantasy world and Papa Obama will take care of you just like you want him to.

Salty Dog, you're a child and way out of your leaguer here. For the last time, I don't even know where those programs are located on my set. BTW, I AM the light! ;) You and those thinking like you are the problem with America. But I'm good, I have discovered the truth and tried to set you free but you cling to fantasy and mean-spirited out of touch politicians. Good luck with that!

Mr.S: You tell us you don't watch FOX, I assume for some good reason. Yet you defend it. What gives?

RLW: I have said I do not apologize for watching Fox. I just do not go out of my way to watch it, and I don't really care for O'Reilly or Hannity. The hard news segments are fine, and I am a Krauthammer fan. Again--Fox agrees with me, I don't agree with Fox. As Mr. P. pointed out recently, there are only so many points of view, so all of us can be accused of "parroting" on occasion.

Fox is the red, white, and blue fair and balanced network. Liberals would never watch an American network like Fox.

I never said that what billo and his friends at fox say are mostly lies. Most of their sentences simply build the shaky foundations for the lies. But alas, brigitte is right, when the typical fox viewer hears a lie told often enough, they believe it. Sad. Thank you for your letter, though. It was very amusing and brightened my morning.

Mike, isn't there some distinction between a columnist and a "regular contributor?" It seems ALL these folks have switched their rhetoric to try and correct their ages-old practices. Maybe by turning the blame on us they think it removes the stain?

I watch Fox News and i dont think it makes any cents why people have a problem with it. They tell the truth, they love God (God bless you and God bless the USA) and they are FOR america. Unlike the Islamic Obama.

Today's establishment media practice very little journalism and they devote minimal resources to reporting actual news. Instead they have become a mechanism to create and maintain public perception. They spend most of their resources to create a false reality for the public while they distract you from the most important issues facing our world. For all practical purposes you can safely say that the reality portrayed by the establishment media bares little resemblance to the actual world in which we live. This is not theory, this is obvious and it becomes clear to anyone who cares to pay attention. An

Im talking about fox news, CNN etc, "If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." -Malcolm X

Sounds fair and balanced. But when you say "They spend most of their resources to create a false reality for the public while they distract you from the most important issues facing our world," you give them way too much credit. The problem is they don't care what they are doing as long as they get viewers/listeners. Commercial media is all about selling ads, and they get more money the bigger audience they attract. It's really that simple. If you want more substantial news, you have to go to non-commercial media and authors who are peer reviewed. Many scholars write books not for the money it brings, but for the reputation it gives them. And if they are untenured, they need to "publish or perish."
