What about knives?

By From page A8 | June 14, 2014

I find it so sad that all we are hearing about with regard to the murders in Santa Barbara is the people who were shot, guns are to blame, make more laws that the police are supposed to carry out but then they are blamed for whatever, take away guns, etc.

OK, what about the three students that were slashed to death with a knife? Do they not count? Do our lawmakers want to do away with knives?

The father to one of the victims who was shot was on TV, wanting more laws controlling guns, but said nothing about knives. Maybe this is just me.

2011-Total Murders= 12,664/Gun Murders= 8,583 or 67.7% OF ALL MURDERS IN US/Knives Sharp Instruments Murders= 1,694 or 13.3% of All Murders. Source: Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Uniform Crime Reports for the United States, Crime in the United States 2011. I'd probably minus 300 of the knife murders simply because they were committed behind bars with no gun to use. People do kill people, but people are killing people at an alarming rate with guns, which are far less as accessible than knives.

I'm sure it's not just you, Minna. But that's a pretty old and tired reference to a reason for not regulating guns more or more effectively: Why pick on guns when so many other things can be used as weapons? Boom had provided one answer. Another is it's just not practical or sensible to regulate every potential weapon. What would you propose for knives to make it fair to regulate guns?

Your gunna have to have a permit to own knives. Same as a handgun. Youll apply, if you pass then wait a week or two to recieve your blades. Same will go for all kitchen cutlery ;)

If you really think guns and knives are the same, leave your gun at home the next time you go hunting and take a knife. If you still feel, after that trip, that they are each equally lethal then fine, you win.
