Walmart donation benefits Meals on Wheels

By From page A11 | July 23, 2014

On behalf of Meals on Wheels of Solano County and its board of directors, I would like to thank the Wal-Mart Corporate State Giving Program for a recent grant award of $25,000, which supports our organization’s mission to provide meals to seniors in our community.

Meals on Wheels’ motto is “So no senior goes hungry in Solano County.” This past year, we served more than 155,000 meals to homebound seniors and participants in the local senior community centers. Our clients have told us that our program “has saved their lives” and has “kept them healthy” because of the meal we provide and the socialization we support.

Because of Walmart’s generous grant, Meals on Wheels of Solano County will be able to purchase the raw food needed to prepare the healthy meals we serve, thus allowing us to continue to support our valued seniors of Solano County.

Wow! This must one of the first good comments I've heard about Walmart in this area. Everyone else bashes it--from unions, residents, businesses, and what have you. Where I come from, there are three of them, and there is still a vibrant downtown. It's nice to hear something positive. Can't wait for the SS one to open up!

that is great for your wonderful program Cathy... keep doing the good work. But honestly if we were not paying millions of tax dollars to support Walmart's under paid and under insured employees with food stamps and medical care... There would be a lot more money in the kitty for wonderful senior programs like 'Meals on Wheels' And to "Way to go" - the town my family is from also has a vibrant downtown after walmart moved in... Vibrant colored graffiti on the boarded up buildings... and a 'Thrift Village' where the wonderful family owned Grocery and Meat/Deli store used to be. Keep an eye on that Vibrant shopping center there in Suisun...
