Thank you for supporting Juneteenth

By From page A8 | July 07, 2014

The African-American Family Reunion Committee would like to thank our sponsors, visitors, vendors, exhibitors and volunteers for supporting Vallejo’s 26th Annual Juneteenth Celebration at City Park. Our event was a huge success and it could not have been so without your participation.

Our partnership with Greater Vallejo Recreation District and La Clinica exemplifies what can be accomplished through shared missions with public-nonprofit collaboration.

Attendance at the new venue exceeded our expectations and demonstrated that Juneteenth is not about where it is held. Instead, it is far more important to do what is necessary to ensure that this important community event takes place year after year.

Next year, the AAFRC will join an international commemoration of the sesquicentennial observance of Juneteenth – 150 years celebrating a cultural tradition that symbolizes the spontaneous expression of jubilation and empowerment through freedom from slavery in the United States for people of African ancestry, as well as equal rights and unity for all people.

Please don’t miss out on this historic occasion. Contact us on our website at vallejojuneteenth.com and let us know that you will participate.

Angela Jones, PresidentAfrican American Family Reunion Committee
