The Dec. 7 edition of the Daily Republic missed a very important “jeer” in its “Cheers and Jeers” editorial.
The Solano Community College board voted yes to use a project labor agreement for the bond money that was voted for by the majority of those who live within the college district’s boundary. The board has sent a message to all residents as well as the students attending Solano Community College: If you are a nonunion contractor who has a benefit package for your employees, you will be bidding at a disadvantage against your union competition on projects that have a budget of more than $4.5 million. You will need to pay all benefits into the union trust, which your employees will never see, as well as paying into your own benefit package to keep your employees covered, maintaining the hourly wage set by the state of California.
I wish to thank board members Michael Martin and Pam Keith for voting no on this discrimination. Two board members who vote for the good of all, not a select few.
