Rodeo clowns stand by

As fire engines and police emergency vehicles zoom up and down our streets all day long, my street for example, I think it will be a long time before you or I see a bicycle cop in hot pursuit of a dangerous criminal or felon, do you know what I mean?

Patrol officers can best be utilized in the meantime, running down speeders and ticketing illegal parking, even if it offends someone. Am I right?

So, if you happen to notice a big, red truck or SUV with front end damage, give me a call and maybe claim the reward I’m offering for hitting my parked truck. While I commend the police department’s new bike patrol, I don’t think it could’ve stopped this guy, who hit me and ran in the middle of the night, while I slept.

With fewer police in patrol cars ready to chase down the bad guys, I can only guess at how successful this new bike patrol will be here on Vallejo’s streets, not just downtown, where I suspect is where this idea was hatched.
