Retired Teachers Week is Nov. 3-9, 2013. Teachers never stop caring, even when they are retired. Retired teachers are working for free, doing volunteer activities. Last year, California retired teachers donated $56 million worth of time to local communities – and that was just from retired teachers who reported their volunteers hours.
You may see retired teachers volunteering for museums, libraries, churches, theaters, hospitals, police departments, Scouts, elections, community-sponsored activities, Meals on Wheels, Vaca FISH and other food pantries, Opportunity House, Mission Solano and Red Cross, as well as at schools.
Teachers receive so much reward knowing they are contributing to the community by helping people. If you have a chance, thank a teacher for helping you with your education as well as for what he or she is doing now.
