I would like to thank Kathy Parsons for bringing to my attention (Feb. 11, “Post Office: Once the pride of Fairfield”) that the cleanliness of the Fairfield post office did not meet her standard of a “professional business,” and I sincerely apologize for not meeting her standards, as well as those of my other customers.
As the postmaster of Fairfield, it is important for me to hear the concerns of our customers, especially when it concerns the image of the post office where they come to transact postal business. I completely agree that customers who come to my post office should be treated to a clean, professional business environment.
I have taken immediate steps to ensure that all customers will find a clean, well-organized lobby at the Fairfield post office. This includes the hiring of a full-time custodian to maintain the facility. The P.O. box lobby at the Fairfield post office is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the convenience of our P.O. box customers.
Because the P.O. box lobby is open 24/7, we can not always control who comes into our lobby. Regardless, we still need to do a better job to assure that the people who come into our lobby in the late hours are actually there to retrieve or drop off mail.
I can assure all customers who frequent my post office will find a clean, professional business environment and the promise that their customer experience with us is enjoyable and positive.
