Parking fleece in Vallejo

By From page A13 | November 07, 2012

After reading a newspaper article about the upcoming parking fees at the new garage at the Vallejo waterfront and existing areas, I took a ride down the Marine World Parkway and boy was I ever dismayed by the parking by permit only and the limited places that now exist to park for free, like before.

There seems to be an attempt to separate my money from my wallet at every turn. While the days of the walk on the waterfront for free seem a thing of the past, we can only look to progress and new homeless camps to crop up wherever they choose with little or no enforcement for them.

While the criminal element is alive and thriving all over town, are you willing to leave your vehicle in this one of many areas of Vallejo that are unsafe and prone to thievery and burglary, and possible violence on your person? I don’t think so.

With a parolee population that’s also very large with these individuals out of work and only pennies in their pockets, what are they supposed to do with no hope or a job in sight, and no future besides living on the public. So with Vallejo once again holding its hand out and turning its back on the same old problems, we can only expect more of the same. Sorry, no ferry for me.

Hi there Like you I am still puzzled by the mistakes of the City of Vallejo including this latest one. Charging $5 to park per day at the waterfront. When you look at the budget numbers, the only thing I can see, is not revenue being created but money being given away to 24/7 security to prevent minor petty crimes in the parking lot. I have parked there for 8 years to ride the bus/ferry for work and gosh, I have never had any issues. Now I get to pay $290 a month for ferry plus $20 a month for a parking pass for a service that really does not seem necessary. Good job Vallejo for deterring new riders to the ferry, no deterring potential day travelers to the ferry, and for mismanaging your budget. We who don't even live in your city have to pay for your mistakes. Thanks but no thanks.

Why spend $290 dollars a month riding the ferry when you can buy a aluminum boat for $500 dollars that has a couple oars? Dang, has people have become lazy or what!
