No more plastic bags in California

By From page A10 | February 16, 2014

California state Sens. Alex Padilla, D-Van Nuys, Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, and Ricardo Lara, D-Long Beach, should be commended for their support of Senate Bill 270, which would phase out the use of single-use plastic bags in the state of California by 2015.

Plastic bags are currently one of the most common garbage items littering our beaches in California and they account for 7 percent to 8 percent of the garbage flowing into the San Francisco Bay. More than 90 cities and counties have already banned the distribution of these unnecessary bags and replaced them with inexpensive paper or other reusable types of bags.

We need all of our state senators to support this bill and help California make this important step toward a cleaner, greener California. Bravo to these three for helping make this possible.

Yes... please ban plastic bags. Too many ugly women are suffocating while on dates.

What if I responsibly use the plastic bags that come with my groceries, and reuse them, and then properly dispose of them? Why am I being deprived of the right to choose to use them? Additionally, what about all the packaging (cardboard, plastic, foil) that comes with my purchases? those would seem to be just as hazardous as the bags- should we ban those as well?
