Does everyone remember Lois Lerner? She was the IRS official who headed the division that handles applications for tax-exempt status. In May 2013, she was brought before Congress to answer questions about the IRS scandal, where IRS agents improperly targeted tea party groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status from 2010 to 2012.
She disclosed the targeting at a law conference in May 2013. Two weeks later, she was brought before Congress to answer questions about her role and what she knew about the targeting. Now get this – before Congress could question her, she made a statement that she did not do anything wrong. Then she refused to answer any questions at the congressional hearing, citing her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself.
A few days later, she was put on paid administration leave. Now fast forward to now and she is going to retire. First she admitted the improper targeting of the tea party groups. Then she refused to answer questions about her role in the targeting, then goes on paid leave and now she is retiring. All this and no penalty or jail time and she will get to collect her pension.
Am I the only one who thinks something is wrong with this? I guess it pays to have friends in high places. I know the liberal apologists will try to spin this, but the facts are the facts.
