I like Mike Kirchubel. He gives the Daily Republic editorial page a little bit of balance that represents the voting habits of the people who live in this area. Since most right-wingers rarely venture outside his/her bubble, I want to remind you all three of our area’s congressmen are liberal Democrats.
The DR’s hard right-wing slant is very evident in its editorial cartoons; I have yet to see one Ramirez cartoon taking a swipe at Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner, after seeing the DR devote 60 percent of its cartoons taking swipes at Speaker Pelosi and Sen. Harry Reid at a time when President George W. Bush was letting both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars spiral out of control and letting the financial system to melt down.
The people really need to know what a weak person Boehner is before he lets the country go into default just to prove a point.
Mike Kirchubel gives facts to show just how voting against your own best interest affects you. Just take most Department of Defense workers at Travis Air Force Base. They voted to save tax cuts for the wealthy, now it’s time for them to pay with a 20 percent cut in pay thanks to the sequester, a compromise to save their jobs a year and a half ago. But take comfort, Travis DOD workers, you saved trust fund babies like Paris Hilton from the “death tax.”
So DR, please don’t listen to readers asking you to stop printing Mike Kirchubel’s column. After all, it’s not the 1 percent who make up most of your readers; it’s the 99 percent and they art hurting, thanks to the policies of the GOP. Just because someone has an ‘R’ behind their name doesn’t mean it’s good for your bottom line.
