As the mayor of Suisun City, Jim Spering did more than any other person to save that city from oblivion.
Representing Solano County on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, he’s done more than any other person to ensure that Solano County receives its fair share of state and federal transportation dollars. On his watch as a county supervisor, Solano County stayed on sound financial footing while many other local governments had to drastically cut public services and some even filed for bankruptcy.
Jim Spering is widely regarded as one of the most effective public servants in Solano County’s history.
His more serious opponent in this election campaign wants to jump ship to the Board of Supervisors before completing her first term on the Fairfield City Council or even demonstrating that she’s earned the right to re-election to that body. On her watch as a member of the Fairfield City Council, which can actually exercise control over the city’s Police Department, violent crime has increased in Fairfield. Despite that, she states that she should be elected to the Board of Supervisors because of her ability to fight crime, conveniently ignoring the fact that the Solano County voters elect a sheriff and a district attorney to handle law enforcement.
The other candidate in the 3rd District race takes the strange position that voters should consider public service to be a negative unless he’s the one providing it.
Jim Spering clearly deserves re-election to the Board of Supervisors.
