I just want my hearing aid

By From page A8 | June 22, 2014

I am a veteran who applied for hearing aids almost three years ago.

It started at our local Veterans Affairs office in September 2011 (OK, only two years and 10 months ago) by going for and paying for a hearing test. Since that time, about every one to two months I call, begging, pleading and nagging anyone to help. I would like to think I am making some progress.

So, with that in mind, I would like to share my fears about Gen. Eric Shinseki’s replacement. I can just see the ad under the help wanted on either Craigslist or in The Wall Street Journal:

Wanted: CEO to take charge of a national, financially sound business with a department employing more than 312,000 people and a budget of more than $150 billion. No business experience needed, but applicant must have spent most or preferably all of his or her working life in any federal government position. Anyone with a management background in any profit-making organization, or experience as top-level hospital administrator or anyone with an education, specifically in these fields, need not apply. Should be a Democrat.

Oh, how I hope and pray I am wrong. I truly believe this position is so, so much more important than politics and business as usual.
