As I walked through the park at City Hall one morning, I noticed several items in the pond that may harm the geese and ducks.
The first item I spotted was a red lid, the top part to a Tupperware container, floating on top of the water. Farther around the pond, I noticed an empty clear plastic small sandwich bag. Yet farther around the pond, I saw two empty clear plastic drinking cups floating on top of the water.
What should you do if you are the one who did or who may accidentally (but knowingly) some day drop items in the pond? First of all, of course, do not go in the pond to retrieve the item. You may walk over to the police station, located on the premises, and tell the clerk at the window what happened. She knows how to contact the Public Works Department, which will respond to the call for help with the proper tools and retrieve the undesirable items from the pond.
If you are not someone who dropped an item into the pond but you see trash in the water, I hope you will contact the clerk at the Police Department window and tell her so the trash can be removed to protect the geese and the ducks. Let’s all work together to keep the pond safe for the animals.
