Mike: I guess I am, especially for those states that have virtually nothing in place (if that’s possible). Also, I offer that in light of the current public uproar as a means of avoiding even more draconian laws, and to appease the anti-gun people who are about to erupt into a major witch hunt. Am I particularly happy with California’s gun laws? No.

With some exceptions, including the availability of semi-automatic weapons for civilians, and the availability of ANY firearm to the mentally unstable and the criminal element(e.g., gunshows), the author is correct: There are more than enough gun laws on the books, especially in California. If you doubt this, get a copy of CALIFORNIA GUNLAWS, by C.D. Michel. Or any comprehensive legal source. The entire country could probably benefit by adopting this state’s laws.

Please insert the term, “semi” automatic weapons in the rant above. The small difference between firing a weapon as fast as you can twitch your finger and one that does it for you is, I’m sure, lost on the victims.

OK, Mikey. You displayed again that you are woefully uninformed about some things. “Automatic” weapons ARE NOT readily available. Automatic weapons require a special ATF license, rigorous background checks, frequent ATF surprise inspections, and a heavy annual fee. From that utterly wrong premise you bring the argument down to utterly absurd levels, in your usual style.

Liberals railing for gun control? Liberals? Really? Why not call those proposing rational regulations “open minded?” This latest incident has a very broad spectrum of Americans wondering why automatic weapons are so readily available. What do you use yours for, Hank? Deer? Ducks? Or anybody who does not agree with your politics? Would you use you automatic weapons to protect America from an invasion by al Quida? Or to protect America from President Obama? Do you think it would be a good idea for everyone to have access to a nuclear weapon? How about a non-nuclear bomb? Are car bombs OK? They are safer than a machine gun. Sinper rifles with a mile-long range? R.P.G.s? Where is the line you would draw between “freedom” and sensibility?
