The Heffernan girls from Vacaville really outdid themselves at the recent Relay for Life walk-a-thon at Armijo High School.
Alyssa, 15, who was team captain, organized the team and secured pledges totaling $1,000 and it was matched dollar-for-dollar by Walmart. Her sisters Isabella, 10, Kaylea, 12, and Krista, 8, all walked on the lumpy field; not on a smooth track or walking surface but out in the lumpy grassed field.
The girls totaled many miles but Bella outdid everyone else. She started walking at 10 a.m. and with eating and “water” breaks, she ended her stroll at 3 a.m. after being convinced that she should stop. By this time, she had walked more than an amazing 30 miles. What a performance by this little dynamo!
There are a lot of great stories daily by many people in this age group; too bad they aren’t recognized. Way to go girls!
