Gas taxes help pay to fix roads

By From page A11 | March 12, 2014

Here is more ranting from another old man. Please don’t do anymore stories about Richie Rich driving around for free in his $85,000 Tesla model S car. Especially the one about going from Vancouver, British Columbia, to San Ysidro for zero petro dollars.

What about road taxes? We all pay road taxes if we buy gasoline. How do you think the roads get fixed? The little road fairy comes out at 3 a.m. with a bucket of asphalt and fixes potholes for free?

Try driving around on farmers fuel (red dye), get caught and see what happens. Not pretty. What about me? I will continue to buy gasoline, pay road taxes and drive the wheels off my $1,200 beater. When it dies, I will go get another $1,200 beater.

I'm not sure what your point is? Yes gas taxes are used to fix roads, which is why we have it, but it's also used on other things like public transportation, because if the people who ride it paid the real costs, they wouldn't ride it. As for the electric car. The government wants clean air, and gives free money to help pay for one, and then later bit HD how that person is not paying their fair share. If the government could figure out a way to tax you on the power you generate from solar panels you have on your house, they would do it! He'll if they could tax you on the air you breath they would.
