Even Santa sometimes needs food

By From page A8 | December 22, 2012

On Dec. 17, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church distributed 325 Christmas food bags for those needing food during the holiday season.

I want to thank the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano for the food we received for our distribution. Thanks to all of you who contributed to the food bank in the form of money or food donations. A special thanks to Walmart, whom I know contributes much to the food bank. Thank you to Safeway for its generous donation of gift cards to purchase a turkey or ham for the holiday meal. Thank you to the Cordelia Rotary Club for its $500 donation, which purchased rice and beans.

A special thank you to Julia Gomez, a teacher at Crescent Elementary School, who again sponsored a food drive at her school to help collect food for this program. And of course, thanks to all our volunteers that helped sort, bag and distribute 325 bags. It’s important to note that the last person that picked up a bag of food was Santa Claus, so even Santa sometimes needs food.

June Johnsen, council president, St Mark’s Lutheran Church
