Krishna Abrams stated that one of her priorities if she is elected is to reinstate the cold case unit that Donald du Bain dismantled.
Without this unit, my family would never have found out what happened to Danna. She had been a missing person since 1996. All those years we lived with the knowledge that Lonnie J. Kerley had killed her but there was nothing we could do. Her father went to his grave never knowing where her body was or if we would ever see justice for her.
Unless one has gone through an ordeal such as this, it is hard to describe the helplessness, hopelessness and heartbreak that families of cold case victims face. These families deserve closure or at least a district attorney who will do everything in his or her power to help solve these cases. Sadly, without the detectives in this cold case unit, this is not going to happen.
Don du Bain’s campaign has stated that he wouldn’t want the support of defense attorneys and that if Abrams wins, it’s a win for defense attorneys in Solano County. Anyone who has ever sat through a trial that Abrams is prosecuting knows how laughable that statement is.
Just to set the record straight once again: I was at the courthouse steps when Abrams announced her run for district attorney and I spoke with one of those defense attorneys who du Bain now says he would never want to support him. Dennis Honeychurch told me that just that morning du Bain had called him and asked him for his support.
How can du Bain, who had nothing but praise for Abrams in the past, all of sudden say such misleading statements about her? I just wish before the election we could have a real debate and focus on the real issues facing Solano County.
