Thomas Paul Murray, Jr., (Paul) passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on September 15, 2012, in Vacaville, CA.
Paul was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Jan 3, 1932, to Thomas P. Murray Sr. and Agnes Murray.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict before settling in Phoenix, Arizona, where he met and married Janet Carroll Baker.
He came to California to work at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, settling in Fairfield in 1968. He worked as a machinist and taught for the Navy at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and for Solano Community College until he retired from his civilian service in 1989. He married Carolyn Hathaway in 1984 and lived in Fairfield for the rest of his days.
He volunteered locally as a youth basketball, and Little League baseball coach in Fairfield. After retirement from Civil Service, he volunteered for Kaiser Premanente and the Fairfield Fire Department for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 28 years; sons, Michael, David and Patrick; daughters, Theresa, Catherine, Eileen, Debbie and Hope, his 16 grandchildren, and his sisters Ann Finnerty and Mary Agnes Knittle. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Murray and sister, Sr. Margaret Murray.
He had a wry sense of humor and was widely loved by those who knew him from the Shipyard, Kaiser Hospital, and Solano Community College.
Friends are invited to attend a service at Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave. on Wednesday, September 19 at 2 p.m.. A funeral at a later date will be private.
