Thomas Durwood “Sonny” Eddings, 83, passed away on the morning of March 16, 2014, at NorthBay Medical Center.
Tom was born Dec. 6, 1930 in Oklahoma to Tom and Tela Eddings. The family moved to The Bay Area in 1939 and he graduated from Richmond High School in 1948. Tom enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, where he met his wife of 60 years, Helen Marie.
Tom was very successful in each job he held, but was a particularly good salesman. After moving to Fairfield in 1976, he started a successful lumber business located in the Bay Area, which saw him through to retirement. Tom and Helen loved gardening and landscaping and were recognized by the city of Fairfield for their efforts. Tom took much pride in his home and cars and could be seen every Saturday morning polishing both the family vehicles to a high shine. Tom also enjoyed skiing, traveling to distant parts of the world and caring for his little dogs.
Tom is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Eddings; sons, Stu Eddings and wife Amy of Roseville, and Joel Eddings and wife Lisa of Fairfield; grandchildren, Sunny, Zachary, Lindsey, Blake and Corey; and great-grandchild, Calen.
Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Maughan; and grandchild, Andrew. Also left to remember him is his sister, Sue Meatte of Boise, Idaho; and various nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Burial will be at Wasatch Gardens Memorial Cemetary in Ogden, Utah. Private services will be held.
