Satoko McGray passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2013, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1934, in Shiga, Japan, and is the daughter of Kametaro and Tami Nakanishi. Her family moved to Yamashima Kyoto when she was a baby. She attended school there and was also trained in sewing and flower arranging. She was hired by a dress shop in Kyoto and made designer clothing.
She met and married Jack McGray, a member of the U.S. Air Force who was stationed in Japan. Jack and Satoko were assigned to many Air Force bases and raised three wonderful children. Satoko was dedicated to her family. She was a room mother at her daughter’s school and also taught a sewing class. Satoko began working as a sales associate after her children were grown. She was a top sales producer at the Santa Rosa Emporium Capwell several times. Satoko and Jack relocated to Fairfield, Calif., in 1989. Satoko began working at the Fairfield Emporium Capwell and later at Macy’s. I am sure many of her customers will remember this beautiful, elegant lady with the beautiful smile.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kametaro; mother, Tami; brothers, Hiseo and Toru; and her sister, Kyoko Hagiwara. She is survived by husband, Jack; son, Richard of Merced, Calif.; daughters, Cathleen (Jeff) Pyle of Evansville, Ind., and Deborah (Bryan) Marye of Burbank, Calif.; brothers, Masaharu of Yamashima Kyoto and Tamato of Shiga Ken, Japan; sisters, Toshiko Nakata of Otsu, Japan, and Sayoko Ikoma of Nara, Japan; and grandchildren, Christian, Ava Marye, Ryan and Lauren Pyle.
