Robert James Carty Sr., 84, of Suisun Valley passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Easter Sunday.

Born July 26, 1929, in Hollywood, Calif., to Mary L. Toombs and Henry J. Carty. He was a graduate of University of California at Los Angeles, earning a degree in marketing. There he met his wife, Jean Harris, whom he married in 1952. They came to Suisun Valley in 1963 and purchased the Bella Vista Ranch, where they raised their family and enjoyed vineyard farming.

He served in United States Navy from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean conflict. Bob was an active member and held offices in the following organizations: Suisun Valley Fruit Growers, Farm Bureau and the Allied Grape Growers. He was charter member and served as chairman of the board of Suisun Valley Bank.

Bob had a wide variety of interests and collections including antique machinery, antique cars and firearms and he enjoyed studying the history of each.

Bob will be greatly missed by his children and their families, including sons, Thomas (Kim), Kenneth (Coralie) and Robert Jr.; daughters, Janet Clark (Michael) and Jane Klotz (Donald); 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jean, in 2011.

The family thanks Pat Genaw, his home care provider, and the staff at  NorthBay Medical Center for their excellent care.

Funeral services will be held at noon, April 25, 2014, at Rockville Cemetery Stone Chapel, 4219 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield, Calif., 94534.
