Robert “Bob” proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S. Harry Lee from 1941 to 1945.
During World War II, he served in seven invasions in the Pacific. After the war, Bob served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1964 and after retirement from the military he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Fairfield, Calif.
Bob was an amateur photographer and enjoyed taking photos and developing and printing them in his home darkroom. After retirement from the postal service he became a Master Gardner and participated in many events with that group and was a volunteer at the air museum on Travis Air Force Base.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the VA Community Living Center in Fresno, where Bob received wonderful care, support and understanding.
He is survived by Eileen Berg, his wife of 61 years; daughters, Sharon Berg and her husband Neil Rains; and Linda Berg and her husband Joel Greenberg; grandchildren, Robert Greenberg and Emily Sawyer and her husband Justin Sawyer; and great-grandchild, Aida Sawyer.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, the Chapel of the First Congregational Church, 2131 N. Van Ness Blvd. in Fresno.
In lieu of flowers donations in honor of Bob may be made to the Veteran’s Community Living Center, 2615 E. Clinton Ave., Fresno, CA 93703.
