Patricia Jo McDonald was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Columbus, Kan., to Chester and Gertrude Ryan.

She went to high school at St. Mary’s Inter-parochial High School in Wichita, Kan., and graduated in 1950.

After successfully raising seven children, she went on to earn her bachelor of arts degree in humanities from New College of California and her master’s degree in social work from California State University, Sacramento. She worked as a mental health aid for Solano County for five years prior to pursuing her master’s degree and working with Contra Costa County as a social worker with children’s protective services for 12 years. She was a volunteer and clinical director with the Solano-Napa Critical Incident Stress Management team, was music director at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rio Vista and a longstanding member of the Young Ladies Institute.

Patricia’s hobbies included genealogy, quilting, knitting, gardening, staying active with pilates and yoga and traveling to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Patricia’s most rewarding life successes are her seven children, David (Estela) McDonald of Miami, Fla., Mark (Jan) McDonald of Burke, Va., Cynthia (Aubrey) Hawkins of Chester, Calif., Diana McDonald of Concord, Calif., Beth (Jim) Guest of Linthicum, Md., Brian (Brenda) McDonald of Epping, N.H., and Craig McDonald of Arbuckle, Calif.; grandchildren, Alice, Mark Jr., Paul, Robert, Matthew, Adam, Jason, Lisa, Brian Jr, Amy, Ashley, Christopher, Stephanie and Desiree; great-grandchildren, Rowan, Harper, Autumn, Scarlett, Keenan, Brooke and Korbin.

Please come and rejoice in the celebration of life of Patricia Jo McDonald, with a rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday July 30, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 130 South 4th St, Rio Vista, Calif. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Richard officiating. Arrangements under the care of C.E. Stewart Chapel in Rio Vista, Calif., 707-374-2352.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of Patricia’s friends and associates who have extended their prayers and condolences and the family wishes everyone concerned, peace . . . love . . .  joy and happiness.
