Noah R. Tilghman passed away at age 96 in Fairfield, Calif.

He was born in Globe, Arizona, to Noah Jay and Shuler W. McPherson Tilghman and was a 50-year resident of San Lorenzo before moving to Fairfield in 2005.

Noah was active in the Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout Badge in 1931 and participated in the first National Jamboree in 1935. He graduated from Modesto High School in December 1936. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps until receiving an honorable discharge in mid-1943.

A devoted father, he dedicated his life to caring for his wife and raising their children. He was a master plumber who, until his retirement in 1979, was a mechanical inspector for the Office of the State Architect. He was active in the Masons, serving as lodge master in 1972 and received his 50-year membership pin in 2010.

Noah loved to travel and visited each of the United States, all of the Canadian provinces, parts of Mexico and the Caribbean either by recreational vehicle, cruise ship or train.

He is survived by his younger brother, Edgar Tilghman of Pinole; children, Barbara Louise Adams (John) of San Jose, Allan Raleigh Tilghman (Paula) of Los Banos, and B. Noah Tilghman (Jeanne) of Fairfield;  grandchildren, Sarah Louise Adams-Kiddy (Ray), Aaron Raleigh Tilghman, Matthew Wyatt Tilghman (Heather), Megan Victoria Rott (Jeff), Ian Noah Tilghman (Ellen); and  great-grandchildren, Elspeth Adams-Kiddy, Niall Adams-Kiddy, Caden Rott and Emma Tilghman.

Noah was preceded in 2008 by his loving wife of 65 years, Vera Dorothy Tilghman.

A Masonic memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, in the Fireside Room of the San Lorenzo Community Church, 945 Paseo Grande, San Lorenzo, Calif.
