Nov. 2, 1927 — April 20, 2012

Mathilda “Tillie” Jane Penovich Vitalie passed away on April 20, 2012, at the age of 84. Tillie was born November 2, 1927, in Tooele, Utah, where she and her five sisters and five brothers were raised on the family farm.

Tillie met George Vitalie in San Francisco while staying with her sister, Mary. They married August 27, 1949. Tillie, George and their three children resided in the Glen Park neighborhood of San Francisco until moving to Marin County. Upon retirement they moved to Collinsville, Calif.

Tillie was a devoted, loving, hard-working stay-at-home wife and mother. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed card games, reading, boating, baking and cooking — which she generously shared for the enjoyment of others. During her early years in Marin County she participated in women’s league bowling. She loved walking through the fields of Collinsville, in search of wild asparagus.

Tillie lost George, her husband of nearly 62 years, eight months ago. After George’s passing, Tillie spent her time between the Collinsville home and her son Ron’s home in Fort Mohave, Arizona. Also preceding her in passing were all of her siblings, including her beloved sister, Mary, as well as other family and life-long friends.

She leaves behind daughter, Sharon Vitalie Cole and husband, Tom; son, Gary Vitalie; granddaughters Kayla and Natalie; son, Ron; grandson; Giovanni; nieces, Fran and Nancy; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and close friends, all of whom will miss her greatly. A celebration of Tillie’s life will be held in the near future.
