Jon “Raider Jon” Donald Roberts passed away peacefully on April 6, 2014, at the early age of 49, with his close loved ones at his side. He was surrounded by an outpouring of support from his friends across the miles, who were his family.
Jon was born March 6, 1965, in Berkeley, Calif. He spent his early life in Pinole, Calif., before moving out of the Bay Area and settling in Vacaville, Calif., until he passed away due to complications from a brief illness.
Jon was a passionate and caring person who would always light up the room with his easygoing and fun-loving personality. He had a very strong passion for helping people, and would take the opportunity whenever he could to help anyone. He was a master craftsman. He loved his ESPN, sports, his three kitties (Doehead, Coco and Putters), “Cops” the TV show, barbecuing and beer.
Jon had a passion for bowling and left many memories at the bowling alleys across the country as a pro bowler. He was the 1990 PBA Western Regional Rookie of the Year and 1986-87 PCCB Rookie of the Year. He worked for the Oakland Raiders as a communication technician for the past two decades, known as “the guy in the yellow hat backwards” or “Raider Jon.” He loved what he did and spent every second enjoying it.
Jon is survived by his many friends, his sister, Denise Smith; the love of his life, Staci Juchniewicz, who took him “45 years to find her” as he said; and Staci’s kids, Matt, Stephen, Chris, Hailey and Andrew, who he called “his own”; and numerous other kids who he loved dearly and took under his wing.
A celebration of Jon’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Stars Recreation Center, 155 Browns Valley Parkway, Vacaville. Wear casual attire, which is what Jon would want, bring your memories and laughter, and let’s “bust his chops.” Donations can be made that night to cover the celebration arrangements; the rest will be donated to pulmonary research.
